Art Therapy and Human Trafficking

"As long as the mind is enslaved, the body can never be free. Psychological freedom, a firm sense of self-esteem, is the most powerful weapon against the long night of physical slavery"

- Martin Luther King Jr.

I offer pro-bono art therapy and counseling services to survivors of human trafficking. If you are a survivor of trafficking, or if you work in an agency and are working with a survivor, and are in need of counseling services please contact me to schedule a consultation.

I began working with the issue of human trafficking as an artist. I travelled to Nepal in 2007 and conducted a collaborative photography project with women who had been affected by trafficking there. You can see this work in the Didi: Sister gallery. This work changed my life, and I have been committed to working with survivors ever since.

I have worked with survivors internationally, including Cambodia and Nepal, as well as in the United States. My experience in the United States has included case management and counseling for survivors as well as participating in coalitions of professionals seeking to find solutions for survivors. This experience has given me significant knowledge about the brilliance of survivors, as well as the complexities of the struggles of exiting trafficking situations. I utilize a holistic approach when working with survivors, seeking to work collaboratively with other service providers and to address all areas of need in a survivor's life.

If you or your organization are interested in learning more about addressing the mental health needs of survivors of human trafficking please contact me to schedule a presentation.
